The Mandalorian & Grogu: Everything You Need To Know Before Star Wars’ Next Movie
From The Mandalorian season 1 to now, Din Djarin and Grogu have had many adventures that are important to know before their first Star Wars movie.
Speaking with Scott Sanders of The Disney Cruise Line Blog at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Favreau – who was joined by fellow executive producer Dave Filoni – discusses his upcoming Star Wars movie with the utmost confidence and enthusiasm. He and Filoni both give a special shoutout to The Mandalorian crew before Favreau talks about the “scale and scope of the big screen.” He then goes on to say that their goal with this movie is to “have something that rewards people who have been with [The Mandalorian] since the beginning, and with Star Wars since the beginning.”
Favreau does, of course, emphasize their other goal with the movie, in that they hope to reach brand-new audiences by bringing two already well-known characters, Din Djarin and Grogu, to the big screen. Grogu is a major factor in this for Favreau, as “all the kids know who that is.” Now, according to him, this gives these younger viewers the chance to see who Grogu really is, while Grogu and Din’s story overall continues to reward those who have long since been following the duo’s Star Wars journey.
The Mandalorian Movie Is Already Delivering On Big Expectations
Based on the footage Favreau and Filoni premiered during D23’s Entertainment Showcase, it seems as if The Mandalorian & Grogu is already delivering on the large expectations set before it. This movie is certainly under a lot of pressure as the franchise’s first return to the movie theater since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but having the foundation of Din Djarin and Grogu as beloved characters already promises a story that will quickly captivate audiences. The reveals from the footage description only add further to that.
While many viewers may still be disappointed that The Mandalorian‘s story may not continue on the small screen, the big screen just feels right for Din Djarin and Grogu. This pair has long since outgrown the television medium, with them quickly having become some of Star Wars’ most beloved and iconic characters. What’s even more promising to hear is who Favreau has in the front of his mind while continuing their story on the big screen, as it sounds like The Mandalorian & Grogu will truly be a heartfelt tribute to longtime The Mandalorian and Star Wars fans.
