The remake of Salem’s Lot now has an official release month. The upcoming movie, which was written and directed by Gary Dauberman, is the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s second novel, which follows a writer coming back to his hometown, only to learn that it is being plagued with a vampiric menace. The cast of the Salem’s Lot remake, which is set to premiere on Max, includes Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Pilou Asbæk, Alfre Woodard, John Benjamin Hickey, and Spencer Treat Clark.
Max has now announced that Salem’s Lot will premiere on the streaming platform in October 2024. So far, there is no word as to the exact date when the movie, which was produced by horror maestro James Wan (The Conjuring, Malignant), will premiere. However, it seems likely that it will come either on or before the title’s UK and Ireland theatrical release, which is set for Friday, October 11. However, that is the same weekend that the anticipated horror sequel Terrifier 3 debuts in theaters, so it remains to be seen if that is the case.

While the full official date has not yet been revealed, the fact that Salem’s Lot will be premiering in October is perfect timing for the long-awaited release. Although Stephen King is an iconic author in the horror genre, adaptations of his major works do not tend to get pride of place during the Halloween season. In fact, neither of the previous miniseries adaptations of Salem’s Lot premiered in October as the 1979 Tobe Hooper version aired in November and the 2004 Mikael Salomon-helmed adaptation was a June release.

The most recent Stephen King movie to get any sort of October release was the Netflix novella adaptation Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, which premiered in 2022. However, the last adaptation of a major King novel to get any sort of Halloween play was 2019’s Doctor Sleep, which had its global premiere on October 31, though it didn’t debut in the United States until the following week. While Netflix also released 2019’s In the Tall Grass and 2017’s 1922 in October, the most recent major King adaptation to get a proper October release was 2013’s Carrie.
