Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery officially wraps filming, with the director sharing a behind-the-scenes photo. The murder mystery movie franchise initially began in 2019 with the release of the first installment, which received critical and commercial acclaim. The success of the first movie prompted Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, a second installment which received a similar reception to the first movie, though was released by Netflix. Prior to Glass Onion‘s release, Netflix had already ordered Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which began filming in June 2024.
Now, after months of filming, director Rian Johnson recently shared a photo on his official Instagram account, confirming that they had wrapped up filming for the highly anticipated third installment in the Knives Out series.
Johnson posted a single BTS photo with a caption that read: “Aaaaaand that’s a wrap on Wake Up Dead Man. Thank you to the best crew in the world and the most brilliant cast. This shoot was a VERY special experience, I cannot wait to put this thing together and show you all what we’ve got.” The photo itself is of a graveyard, with a sign requesting those to “be mindful of the graves“.
Knives Out 3 Is Set To Be Different From Its Predecessors
There was never much doubt about the highly anticipated third installment in the Knives Out film series getting off the ground. Following the success of the first movie, which grossed $311.4 million worldwide against a $40 million budget, Rian Johnson, the Oscar-nominated writer/director attached to the successful film series from the very beginning, agreed to a deal with Netflix guaranteeing the streamer at least two Knives Out sequels.
The director teased that the latest outing for Beniot Blanc, the film series’ central character, will go in a completely new direction both tonally and thematically.

Knives Out 3 Must Kill Its Greatest Casting Trick For The Sake Of Future Sequels
The first two Knives Out movies benefit from a fun casting trick, but Knives Out 3 needs to kill this tradition if more sequels are planned.
Also, just like the previous installment in the film series, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is set to feature a new set of cast members. Daniel Craig, who plays the private detective Beniot Blanc, reprises his role once again, but he is expected to be joined by new faces Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Josh Brolin and Jeremy Renner. With the title also seemingly pointing toward a darker tone than prior installments, it will be interesting to see whether it lays groundwork for further sequels, or brings Blanc’s story to a close.
