The first Beetlejuice Beetlejuice clips reveals that Michael Keaton’s ghost hasn’t gotten over Lydia and Delia’s art is still terrifying. Set 36 years after the events of the original film from 1998, the sequel finds the Deetz family returning home after an unexpected death, and Lydia’s rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, accidentally reopens the portal to the afterlife, unleashing Betelgeuse once again. Other than Keaton, the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice cast includes Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara reprising their roles alongside newcomers Jenna Ortega and Justin Theroux.

The first clip reveals that Betelgeuse still hasn’t gotten over Lydia and, in the second, Delia continues her pursuit of unconventional art forms. The third clip sees Theroux’s character speaking Betelgeuse’s name three times, transporting him and Lydia to the ghost’s office, which he calls a “safe space.”

Betelgeuse Hasn’t Gotten Over Lydia & Delia’s Art Is Still Terrifying
The first clip focuses on Betelgeuse, talking to a new ghost with a shrunken head, named Bob, and reveals that he still hasn’t gotten over Lydia. In the original movie, Betelgeuse assists Lydia in exchange for marrying him, which is mostly a means for him to live in the mortal world. However, the Maitlands intervene before the ceremony is complete and Betelgeuse returns to the afterlife. Thirty-six years later, Betelgeuse still hasn’t gotten over Lydia, believing they have a “psychic connection.”
The second clip focuses on the Deetz family, including Delia, who was a sculptor and conceptual artist in the original movie, with her bizarre, abstract sculptures coming to life during the film’s climax. Years later, in the sequel, Delia continues to pursue unconventional art forms, attempting to perfect her “primal scream” for something called “the collective.” Since Delia’s sculptures came to life during the first film’s climax, her new art is likely more than just an eccentric personality quirk, and could end up playing a crucial role later on.

Theroux’s character Rory is also featured heavily in the clips, who is Lydia’s husband and Astrid’s father. In the third clip, Rory tries to help Lydia, who is haunted by her past interactions with Betelgeuse, by speaking his name three times and transporting them to his office. While Rory, unable to believe what he’s seeing, passes out at the sight of his disturbing shapeshifting abilities, Lydia is a little more used to his antics. Overall, the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice clips reveal some new details and help set the stage for the sequel, releasing on September 6.
