Pixar’s long-gestating Inside Out sequel proved to be a huge success for the studio, earning over $1.46 billion globally since its June 14 release date. It won over reviewers and audiences alike and served as something of a re-launch of the franchise, which will continue with an Inside Out spinoff series, Dream Productions, in 2025.

Screen Rant is excited to present a clip from the home release of Inside Out 2, which will be available on digital platforms now and on 4K UHD, DVD, and Blu-ray starting September 10. The clip features Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann introducing a scene dubbed “Broken Joy”, which features Joy failing to successfully operate Riley’s internal control board. Take a look, and get ready to revisit the emotional rollercoaster that is Inside Out 2.

Why Inside Out 2’s Deleted Scenes Are Worth A Watch

The home release of Inside Out 2 comes with a number of deleted scenes, and although not all movie deleted scenes are created equal, the ones from this movie are likely worth checking out. Every Pixar movie is the result of a long development process, with final versions often nearly unrecognizable when compared to their first iterations. For that reason, the metaphorical cutting room floor of a Pixar movie is full of unique ideas and characters that, even if they didn’t fit the final story, are impressive displays of creativity and storytelling.

“Broken Joy” certainly brings even more context to Joy’s internal struggle, and the other deleted scenes that come with Inside Out 2’s home release showcase a range of other fun ideas. Inside Out 2’s cut emotions might not have ultimately helped tell as focused a story as audiences eventually saw, but the deleted scene “Pool Party” sees Anxiety turn into Self-Loathing, who is responsible for ousting our hero emotions from headquarters. This is an interesting twist on what made it into the movie, hinting at some of the other emotions that could have been.

Screen Rant’s Inside Out 2 review praised the movie’s expansion on concepts from the first movie, but other deleted scenes highlight ways in which that could have been pushed even further. Another deleted scene, “Puberty Park”, sees the hero emotions running through a puberty-themed amusement park, which would undoubtedly have added to the conceptual comedy of the movie. Other deleted scenes include “Shame Spiral” and a “Cold Open” that sees Riley performing an original song at an awkward school audition.
