  • Cosplayer Amanda Lynne shows just why Star Wars canon should bring back Mara Jade.

  • Could she even fit into
    The Mandalorian
    era?

Mara Jade has yet to make an onscreen appearance in live-action Star Wars, but one cosplay is making a pretty great case for her debut. In Star Wars Legends, Mara Jade is not only Luke’s wife, but a formidable Force-user herself with a fascinating backstory with Emperor Palpatine himself. Though she only exists in the now non-canon Legends, Mara Jade has made an incredible impact in the franchise, and she continues to be a fan-favorite character.

Cosplayer Amanda Lynne posted her version of Mara Jade to Instagram, talking about news of a possible spin-off movie that would revolve around Mara Jade.

She’s outfitted in a caped and armored ensemble completed by her purple lightsaber. Lynne asks her followers how they would feel about a movie revolving around Mara Jade before adding her own opinion to the mix with an emphatic “I would LOVE to see her onscreen!”

What’s the best way to watch Star Wars? Here’s everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.

Could Mara Jade Still Appear In Star Wars?

There’s always a chance

Mara Jade

Hailing from the Legends continuity, Mara Jade’s Force-sensitivity caught the eye of Emperor Palpatine himself. She became one of the Emperor’s Hands, a skilled assassin and spy who served his will. Mara failed in her last mission for the Emperor, to kill Luke Skywalker, and sank into the depths of the underworld for a time. She eventually became an ally of Luke, and the two fell in love, with Mara joining Luke’s Jedi Order. Mara was eventually killed by Jacen Solo, serving as his sacrifice as he committed himself to the way of the Sith.

Luke’s life may have come to its end in the Star Wars movies, but that doesn’t mean his wife couldn’t still play a role in a live-action feature. The Star Wars sequel trilogy has pulled inspiration from Legends without following the stories completely, such as in the case of Leia and Han’s son Ben, who loosely represents the son they had in Legends. Mara Jade might not have been introduced in the movies just yet, but Star Wars canon could easily fit Mara Jade into the story somehow, especially with the renewed focus on Palpatine and his past.

There’s particular interest in the idea of a canon Mara Jade given her crucial role in Timothy Zahn’s “Thrawn Trilogy,” which is being adapted into live-action in The Mandalorian era. Lars Mikkelsen plays the live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn, the villain who made his debut in the same book as Mara. That surely means Mara, or someone in her role, will appear.

It wouldn’t be too hard to insert Mara Jade into this era of the timeline.

Luke’s early years spent rebuilding the Jedi Order and his time in exile are still pretty mysterious, so it wouldn’t be too hard to insert Mara Jade into this era of the timeline. Even without Mark Hamill’s involvement, Mara Jade could still have an enormously exciting movie following her time as Palpatine’s assassin. As the Star Wars projects continue to expand, it’s only a matter of time before Mara Jade leaves her mark on the movies in some form or another.
