Die Another Day
was generally poorly received by critics, but Berry’s performance as Jinx was a highlight.
Die Another Day star Halle Berry reflects on her experiencing being a part of the Pierce Brosnan James Bond movie. Released in 2002, Die Another Day was directed by Lee Tamahori and represented Brosnan’s swan song as 007. The movie, which wasn’t particularly well-received, follows Bond as he investigates the connections between a North Korean terrorist and a diamond mogul, and the satellite weapon the pair are building. Berry stars in Die Another Day as Jinx, one of Bond’s key allies throughout the film.
During a recent appearance on Wired‘s “Autocomplete Interview” Segment, Berry is asked broadly about her involvement in Die Another Day.
The actor has nothing but nice things to say about her time in the Bond franchise, and shares particular praise for Brosnan, who she says will “always be my Bond.” Check out Berry’s full comment below:
“That would be Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan.
He will always be my Bond
, always. I’m a Pierce Brosnan fan. He restored my faith in men on that movie. There couldn’t be a human who is more of a gentleman than Pierce Brosnan.“Bond wasn’t on my wishlist, no, to be in one, but I loved the movies always. But having been in one, I feel like I’m a part of cinematic history. Those movies are iconic. They will forever be a part of our history, and I’m really honored to have been a part of one, especially with Pierce.”
Halle Berry Was A Highlight Of Die Another Day
Pierce Brosnan’s Final James Bond Movie Was A Bit Of A Let-Down Overall
Generally speaking, Die Another Day was among the most poorly-received of Brosnan’s Bond films. The movie, which features a 55% critics’ score and 41% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, was widely criticized for just being too far-fetched. From the invisible car to the cartoonish villains to the inclusion of a satellite that essentially shoots energy beams, Die Another Day just felt like a step too far, even for Bond.

In addition to Brosnan himself, who was always entertaining and as suave as ever when playing Bond, Berry was a highlight of Die Another Day. The “Bond girl” has historically been an essential ingredient in every 007 adventure, and they’re usually some combination of mysterious and dangerous. Jinx, an NSA agent, is exactly that, and Bond first encounters her in Cuba before the two investigate a gene therapy clinic.

James Bond: Why Die Another Day’s Opening Never Worked
Die Another Day opening with 007 being brutalized in prison is perfect for a gritty, grounded James Bond reboot – but Die Another is not that movie.
Unlike in No Time To Die‘s Cuba sequence, which introduces Ana de Armas’ fan-favorite Paloma only for her to disappear from the narrative, Jinx actually returns to play an important role during the Die Another Day ending. Not only does she take out Frost (Rosamund Pike), Jinx is also the Bond girl who gets an apparent happy-ever-after with Brosnan’s 007. While Die Another Day may have been a bit of a letdown as Brosnan’s final outing as Bond, Berry certainly helps make it an entertaining one as Jinx.
