    .

, which is set to premiere in Fall 2027.
  • The Fourth movie

could potentially feature a shorter hiatus than previous sequels in the franchise.

Frozen 4 has seemingly been confirmed. The sequel Frozen 4 would follow the upcoming threequel, which is set to premiere in Fall 2027. That movie follows the first two installments in the franchise, which center on sisters Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel), members of the royal family of Arendelle. While the original 2013 movie was a smash hit, grossing over $1 billion and launching the smash hit single “Let It Go”, its 2019 sequel was an even bigger smash and became the highest-grossing animated movie ever, a record that was only recently surpassed by Inside Out 2.

Screen Rant was in attendance at D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where Frozen and Frozen II co-director Jennifer Lee presented at the event’s central entertainment panel. While discussing the fact that there are many lingering questions from the second movie that still need to be answered, she said that it will take two films to answer them. This seems to double down on previous comments that have been made by her and others about expanding the franchise’s upcoming movie project into back-to-back sequels.

Could Frozen 4 Actually Happen?

These Hints Could Very Well Add Up To Something

Although this latest quote from Jennifer Lee doesn’t equate to a full confirmation of there being a fourth Frozen movie in the works, it does seem to indicate that the company is still chewing on a follow-up to Frozen III. The upcoming Disney movie is still quite a way away, following the second installment to theaters by eight years after that movie had already followed the original by six. These long hiatuses, while natural due to the lengthy production process for animated movies, may be the reason the crew is seemingly considering making the movies back-to-back.

In addition to being a good way to retain the star-studded Frozen cast, making the movies back-to-back could be a good way to prevent there from being another gap of more than half a decade between the third movie and the fourth movie. These gaps don’t seem to have had an effect on the franchise so far, considering the box office performance of the second movie. However, there could come a point when the franchise grows dormant if the wait time grows too extensive, so striking while the iron is hot may be a solid choice.

In addition to Bell and Menzel, the
Frozen
cast includes Josh Gad as Olaf and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen if Frozen 4 is actually in the works at the time of writing. It seems like a near certainty that the movie will eventually be made, especially if the upcoming third installment becomes a hit at the level of its 2019 predecessor. However, the decision about whether the current iteration of the story genuinely needs two movies to tell seems to still be up in the air.
