Summary

  • Deadpool & Wolverine’s potential in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, as shown in new Avengers: Endgame fan art.
  • The fan art features Deadpool in one of the time travel suits the Avengers wore in Endgame.
  • Though Deadpool’s character may be a challenge to fit in the Avengers team, his popularity makes future appearances in the MCU likely.

Deadpool & Wolverine may be over, but the impact of the titular characters entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe has only begun to be explored, including in new Avengers: Endgame fan art. While the recent Deadpool film is filled to the brim with Deadpool easter eggs, the bulk of these were pulled from the Fox universe rather than the MCU. Following Deadpool & Wolverine’s cameos, it makes sense to consider the insertion of Wade Wilson into other MCU settings and encounters. A new piece of fan art has done precisely that, directly referencing the events of Avengers: Endgame.

In the new fan art, which was posted by Ryan Reynolds on X accompanied by the text “Someone must’ve seen Wade Wilson’s vision board”, Deadpool is shown suited up in the time travel suits that the Avengers wore in Avengers: Endgame. This image, credited to @rahalarts, suggests Wade Wilson’s participation in the movie’s events, and the text indicates that Deadpool still wants to be a member of the Avengers. While Deadpool was rejected from the team by Happy Hogan, the ending of Deadpool & Wolverine showed significant character growth, and there are certainly opportunities ahead for Wade Wilson’s future.

Will Deadpool Join The Avengers In The MCU After Deadpool & Wolverine?

Because of the kind of wise-cracking, self-aware character that he is, this iteration of Deadpool would be an odd fit for the Avengers team. While Ryan Reynolds’ charisma and star power would make sense in the universe, each of his Deadpool films has been R-rated and featured several fourth-wall breaks. While the MCU has also done this with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, these characters are more challenging to fit into an ensemble. With awareness beyond the story, Deadpool may be a poor fit for the Avengers team.

With that said, future appearances by the character in the MCU feel likely. Especially following the Marvel box office records set by Deadpool & Wolverine, the character is clearly popular and audiences would love to see him appear in future films. While he has now returned to a separate universe than the main MCU is set in, the rest of the Multiverse Saga will see more opportunities for characters to cross over between films. Following this, it seems likely that Deadpool may appear in some capacity to assist the team in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

All good things must come to an end – however, if Hugh Jackman does continue playing the role of Wolverine until he’s 90, there is certainly the possibility that Ryan Reynolds could do the same as Deadpool. Fitting their characters and performances into the MCU would be a difficult thing to do successfully, but it is clearly something that audiences are interested in. Finding ways to fit Deadpool into the future of the MCU is likely a high priority for their team. Following the events of Deadpool & Wolverine, anything feels possible in Marvel’s multiverse.
