Bridgerton‘s original Francesca actor Ruby Stokes has joined the cast of an upcoming, alternate history movie set in the 19th century titled Madfabulous. Stokes was originally part of the cast of Bridgerton during seasons 1 and 2, having a recurring role as one of the middle sisters in the large, titular family. However, her role was recast in season 3, with Hannah Dodd stepping into her shoes as the character became a central part of the show. Even so, Stokes’ performance remains a memorable part of the show’s earlier seasons.
Now, Deadline reports that Stokes will be joining the cast of a new historical movie, Madfabulous, a dramatic reimagining of 19th century Britain. The movie centers around the lavish life of Henry Paget (Callum Scott Howells), the Marquess of Anglesey whose journey tackles issues of social class and gender norms. Stokes will star as Lily, Henry’s friend and lover, though the pair share a platonic relationship. Alongside the announcement of her involvement was that of actor Rupert Everett (Napoleon).
Why Ruby Stokes Fits Perfectly In Madfabulous
Her Previous Work Makes Her Perfect For The Role
In addition to news of Stokes joining the cast, it was also revealed that filming for the movie has begun in Wales, with multiple locations serving as the main backdrop of the historical fiction tale. Alongside those previously mentioned to be starring in the movie, other key actors include Paul Rhys (Saltburn), Louis Hynes (The Great), Louise Brealey (A Discovery of Witches), and Siobhán McSweeney (Extraordinary) among others. This large cast highlights the many moving parts of the film as it explores Paget’s lifestyle in his lavish role within Great Britain.
Other stars in
Madfabulous
include Guillaume Gallienne, Steve Speirs, and Kevin Eldon among others.
Although Stokes didn’t reprise her role as Francesca in Bridgerton season 3, the actor’s familiarity with historical fiction makes her a perfect addition to the cast of Madfabulous. While the late 19th century setting of the film is further along in time than the acclaimed Netflix series, its dealings with lavish British royals makes her a perfect addition to the cast. It also helps add a layer of familiarity to the world, as her time in a previously-established historical fiction work will concentrate what her new movie is about right away.
As of writing, it’s unclear how Madfabulous will be released, whether as a historical fiction work for Netflix or another streaming platform, or in theaters. However, the film’s unique premise and interesting main character means Stokes will fit right into the movie’s story, utilizing her past work as a baseline for what she does in the film. With production only just beginning on the upcoming historical drama, it remains to be seen what to expect from the movie when it arrives.
