Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed she wants to star in a live-action remake of Frozen, confirming which character she would want to portray in the adaptation. The animated franchise is one of Disney’s most successful in the last decade, with both movies making over $1 billion each at the global box office. In 2023, Frozen 3 was announced, with a fourth movie also getting confirmed later on. The continued expansion of the franchise shows how much faith the company has in it, even 11 years after the first one was released.

Speaking with Vogue Hong Kong (via Deadline), Taylor-Joy revealed that she wants to star as Elsa in a potential Frozen live-action remake. The actor explained how she wants to star in a musical, believing an adaptation of the acclaimed animated film would be the perfect challenge for herself. Check out what Taylor-Joy had to say below:

I really want to do a musical because I’m a little too obsessed with my current job. I love the challenge of completing impossible tasks. I think that’s incredibly motivating for me, so the idea of being able to sing, dance, and act at the same time is really exciting to me.

I think Frozen is going to be great. Shooting ice cubes out of your hands can be a lot of fun. And, you’ll be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party. All my siblings have kids now, so I would love for them to be able to say, ‘My aunt is Elsa.’ That would be great!

Should Frozen Get A Live-Action Remake?

Anya Taylor-Joy Would Be A Perfect Elsa

Disney doesn’t seem to be shying away from creating live-action adaptations of their most successful films, such as The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. This is starting to extend to their newer, 3D-animated movies as well, with a live-action remake of Moana scheduled for release on July 10, 2026, 10 years after the original. Because Frozen is already over a decade old, it wouldn’t be surprising for Disney to pursue a live-action rendition at some point in the future. It would provide a new way of experiencing the original story with potential for strong financial success.

Taylor-Joy would also be a perfect casting choice for Elsa, having displayed her ability to portray complex characters in movies like The Witch and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. It would also give her a chance to play a highly complex antagonist, something that could reveal the scope of her acting abilities in the fantasy musical setting. Given her focus on using such a role to break into a different genre for her career, it wouldn’t be surprising if she was chosen to star in a live-action remake.

However, with Frozen 3 coming in 2027 and Frozen 4 already confirmed, it could be quite a while before Disney decides to remake the original in live-action. Depending on how much time passes, Taylor-Joy might not land the role unless she’s persistent about her interest in the film. Even though it could be a few years until Frozen gets the live-action treatment, the franchise’s continuous success and Disney’s pursuit of adapting newer movies like Moana makes it seem inevitable.
